Brad here:
I am making my first attempt to post on a blog - I'm a lover NOT a blogger.
Today is quickly becoming a long day. It seems to have started yesterday when we came to Vegas to get blood work, EKG testing, and all registered. We stayed in a hotel accross the street (from Sunrise Hospital) but neither one of us slept (and we weren't honeymooning!)
Check-in time was 5:30 am then off to MRI where they put 10 "bulls-eye" stickers on her head. Surgery started at 7:30 am and lasted for 3 hours. It was good to have Rog and Jane in the waiting room even though Rog snored most of the time. The Dr. brought us good news that the surgery was a success. He thinks he got all the tumor, and it was NOT cancer.
We were told to go upstairs where Sara was in intensive care. On our way down the hall the doors opened up out came Sara - straight from surgery (Jeepers)- on a gourney on her way to the elevator. I was honestly not prepared for what I saw. Rog, Jane, Me, Sara on a gourney, and 2 dudes driving her - crowded in an elevator and went up together. Sara seemed awake - she reached for my hand and held it, but she doesn't remember it now. She has more tubes and drain pipes coming out of her head and body than I care to see - even for a Master Plumber.
They had us go to a waiting room while they moved her in to intensive care - for about 30 minutes.
Big brother Jason came next - with 24 life saving Krispy Kreme doughnuts! I did my best with them but recently sent the few left overs to the Nurses station (as instructed.)
I finally got permission to see Sara in her room - but quickly had to get out to the hall. They had to take out a staple out of her head because the"drain hose (plumbing) was kinked." Jeepers again.
After getting permission to come in - I saw her head unbandaged- Jeepers again. She looked like the Klingons on star trek. The drain tube was visible under her skin on her forehead.
(Then I had to sit down on the chair and hear the nurse ask me if I was ok)
Her head is shaved from the ears forward and now thankfully has gauze taped over her stitches / staples and plumbing- (whatever the heck they were)
She is resting well. Thanks to good drugs.
She is not blind or dead so her biggest fear of being buried alive in a coffin is now behind us.
She comes and goes as the hours pass - it is now 5:30 pm utah time. She can't smell but hopefully will be able to. It is common for this surgery to lose smell because 1 "smell" nerve is cut when the brain is moved around.
Yay!!! The nurse just took out a few gruesome needle things out her hand and chest. (I am sitting.)
Anyway - a big thanks to you all. It has been a life changing few weeks for my family. Thanks for your love, prayers, fasting, service, babysitting, hospital survival kits - especially those with extra provisions for me.
Love Brad and Sara -
